Clean Beauty

The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.

As a holistic nutrition coach, I believe health is about so much more than just what you eat. It’s also your lifestyle, mindset and even the products that you use that add up to better quality health. Safer beauty is an incredibly important step I encourage you to take to not only be more mindful, but resolve outstanding health concerns and prevent others.

I decided to join the Beautycounter movement because I personally deal with health issues. Beautycounter is a mission-based safer skincare, makeup, bath & body company that is also performance driven (meaning their stuff actually works!) and is honestly really fun & pretty too (not crunchy, hippy or non-effective whatsoever!)

Our skin is our largest organ and we absorb everything we put on. In our morning routines alone we’re putting hundreds of different chemicals on our bodies & skin before we even leave the house.

Did you know the beauty industry is basically unregulated by the government? This means companies can put thousands (literally) of toxic and potentially harmful ingredients into our products because they make them work better (lather, color, potency etc).

The hard facts: Europe has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products, the US has only partially banned 30 to date. Wow, right?

Those chemicals we’re using everyday have been directly linked to hormonal issues, endocrine disruption, allergies & skin irritation and cancer.

The most important and most common & harmful ingredients found in our everyday products are:

  • Parabens: most know to disrupt the endocrine system (our hormones)

  • Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS): a known skin irritant & can trigger allergies

  • Propylene Glycol: linked to cancer & fertility issues

  • Phthalates (DBP, DEHP, DEP and others): disrupt the endocrine system & may cause birth defects

  • Synthetic flavor or fragrance: May contain any combination of 3,000-plus stock chemical ingredients, including hormone disruptors & allergens

Beautycounter, is committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what's required by U.S. law: They’ve prohibited the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals (using their own standard “The Never List”!) all while ensuring their products perform and that they're as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market. So incredible, right?

So after about a year of trying their products I’m sold and really excited to offer this resource to you, answer any questions, and help you pick out some great products!!
